Nokia Rolls Out New Mobile Devices And Services

Are the advances enough to stop the onslaught of iOS and Android devices?  If Windows Phone can compete, both Nokia & Microsoft have a huge battle on their hands.  Having used various Windows Phones, I found them to be incredibly fast and good at what they do but minor quibbles put me off of them; like the camera not saving settings and resetting back to default for example, was truly irritating.

If you’re not after a Windows Phone, fear not as Nokia also have a slew of alternative offerings up their sleeves.

The guys over at Kotaku have stumbled upon some very interesting (recent, too) patents filed by Sony, for Kinect like hardware.  Will the hardware be available for this generation of hardware or do they have a card up their cunning sleeves for the next?

Sony Working on its own Kinect

A patent filed in late 2011, but which has only been published this month, reveals that Sony is working on its own version of Kinect, Microsoft’s popular motion-sensing peripheral for the Xbox 360 (and now PC).

Kensington Absolute Power

AbsolutePower Is What You Need For Your USB-Powered Devices

It’s always a perplexing quandry, how do you charge all of your devices if you’re  limited on plug sockets? Previously, for me it was the iDapt dock solution.  Problem is with the dock style if you’re charging a couple of mobile phones, they literally take up all of the available space on the dock.  The AbsolutePower negates this problem by simply having individual USB cables.

AbsolutePower by Kensington offers simultaneous charging for all USB-powered Mobile Devices

Ideal equipment for people in a hurry, provides high-density power for multiple mobile devices

Seagate Momentus® XT 750GB Review

The Seagate Momentus® XT 750GB drive looks like any standard 2.5” hard disk with SATA interface. It does differ from standard hard drives in that it also contains 8GB of NAND memory alongside the spinning platters. Inbuilt Adaptive Memory algorithms cache frequently used data onto the flash memory for faster retrieval. This is independent of the operating system, so this will work as well with Windows and MAC systems. The combination of technologies offers faster performance and should compare well with the current generation of solid state drives, but at a much lower cost because of the conventional component.

Samsung Steps Up And Launches The Galaxy Nexus In White

Not a fan of white phones, at all.  I know they’re different from the norm that is black, but they just remind me (the crime against fashion) of white denim & who wears that?

Nokia Lumia 800 In White

The Win 7 mobile, although a critical success, hasn’t really set the world ablaze with its sales.  Are Nokia & MS right to strive on with the platform, or should they start again from scratch?

I’ve tested four Win 7 phones, from the Omnia 7 to the HTC Mozart.  My biggest gripe is that there’s no real difference in the GUI/feel between the different handsets, quite literally they all are seemingly (at least GUI wise) the same.  Microsoft needs to allow for flexibility in its platform, let hardware manufacturers have some degree of tweaking the look and feel of the OS rather than insisting that they all follow suit to one strict guideline.
